By ending the month with honesty, M. Hirsh Goldberg (creator of Honesty Day) believed it would help us end April on a "higher moral note" ( Washington Examiner ) .  The creator of Honesty Day wrote a book about lies? The book is titled  The Book of Lies: Fibs, Tales, Schemes, Scams, Fakes, and Frauds That Have Changed the Course of History and Affect Our Daily Lives  and explores how commonplace lying is in o

JOY for Today - Easter 2022

On Easter we celebrate the day Jesus faced death and triumphed! He was, is, and will always be victorious and worthy of all our praise. Sing it loud; sing it JOYfully! Specifically, during the Council of Nicaea, the Western church agreed Easter would be celebrated the Sunday following the first full moon in spring (after the Vernal Equinox). Currently, however, Easter's date sometimes misses the lunar cycle mark . To be thorough, the Western Church created a table of future Easter dates by projecting full moons. These projections no longer match actual full moon dates, but we still use the Ecclesiastical Full Moon projections to determine Easter's Date.   We can thank Germany for the Easter bunny? While no one is comp

JOY for Today - Palm Sunday 2022

Palm Sunday, a day when throngs of people gathered to welcome their savior, abounds in JOY, yet it comes with a shadow. We know by week's end Jesus undergoes crucifixion. We know it was people like us that voted for Him to die. We know what it means to blame our failed expectations on a meek and humble savior. While a solemn time of reflection, consider the sacrifice He willingly made on your behalf. He would do it again if it were only for you and that, my friends, should bring you great JOY. Rainbows are beautiful, mystical, and a sign that we can TRUST God's promises. There is JOY to be had in finding a rainbow, even a figurative one. Because it lacks a physical presence, its beauty is unique to every beholder . The arc, shape, and width of bands all vary person to person.  A rainbow is a complete circle? You can observe circular rainbows from airplanes . You can never reach the end of a rainbow?  A rainbow's existence is dependent on the position of the observer. So, when you move, the rainbow will move . There is mathematical precision

JOY for Today - April Fools' Day

Image
While we are not in favor of calling people fools, we are in favor of making memories, joining in laughter, and cultivating general merriment. Pranks, done right, can ignite all these things. Plan one (or two) and keep your head about you as you navigate the JOY in today. Photo by editonevideo at Pixabay April Fools' Day Topics: Did You Know...   Wolfe Stew Connects Bible Verses and Quotes   Activity Suggestions  (For families, classrooms or individuals) Did You Know: One April Fools' Day origin story suggests it began as a mockery of people who were slow to transition to the Gregorian calendar? The previous calendar's (Julian) New Year began on the spring equinox, which occurs around April 1st. So, those who continued celebrating the New Year on the last week of March through April first were called April fools. The original prank was a paper fish plastered to your back? The fish symbolized gullibility and the French still celebrate this way. Asking people to run meaningl
