Sweet September. I do so enjoy fall. I know that fall technically doesn't arrive until near the end of the month, but let's be real, if you don't pick up a bag or two of your favorite fall coffee or treats now, you probably will miss out on them when fall does finally arrive. I learned that lesson the hard way. I hope your school year has begun well. I hope your learners are acing the routines and you are excelling on showing patience and persistence. As we get into the academics, let's not forget to pause and enjoy the changing seasons around us. You're never too old to crunch through the leaves, stop to admire the bird migrations, or sip on your favorite hot beverage. There is JOY where you are, take a moment to savor it. We're praying for your patience, persistence, and pauses and appreciate your similar prayers for us. Thank you for ALL you do! For us, August means a return to the school schedule. Early mornings, busy days, and nights spent processing the day's happenings. Caring for littles takes a lot of energy and an emotional toll. We get it! Our goal is to help you find JOY in your daily routine. July is for barbecues, camping, and mosquitos - not that I want to dedicate a month to mosquitos, but they are persistent in reminding us they exist. The secret is to not allow their momentary annoyance to ruin my entire experience ( 2 Corinthians 4:17 ).  This July, let's use this secret in all areas of our life. Let's focus on the splendor of the firework instead of the smoke that distorts the experience. This is how we claim our freedom: we focus on true and lovely things ( Philippians 4:8-9 ) instead of being held captive by smoke and mirrors ( Colossians 2:8 ). Your learners will be moving on, and you don't want to miss the JOY that today offers.  Try it out. Speak a blessing over your life right now and prepare one for the next person you encounter. It is hot and dry. I am so ready for rain! April promises showers, and this year, I certainly am praying that it delivers them. How are things going for you? Are you hot, dry, and ready for rain too?  We're heading into testing season. Which means our schedules look different, and we're in encouragement mode. I bet you're in the same boat. Whatever your outlook on testing is, we hope you are looking to the rainbow at the end: after it's over, you get one more month to enjoy your learners this year. It's nearing February and for the first time this winter, I'm feeling chilly. The heater has been running almost nonstop. Today, I'm looking forward to spring. What about you? This month we're thinking about our thoughts. What we allow ourselves to think about matters. Holding thoughts captive and testing them to see if they are good, lovely, and true is a skill all of us can grow in - leaders and learners alike. Because what we think about affects how we treat ourselves, others, and ultimately who we are becoming.  We invite you to take this step with us! At a time when we are to be thankful, I'm finding myself feeling like the work I do is thankless. And I wonder if you feel the same. I imagine you do. It is rare to have the littles you lead and love thank you for the tireless work you do, especially this time of year. Maybe in Christmas wishes, Valentine cards, and end-of-year appreciation gifts, but at Thanksgiving? Nah, they are frustrated, just like you. They need a break, just like you. They find it hard to feel motivated, just like you. So take a deep breath with me, Leaders. Let's press on together. When it is time to rest, make sure you rest. That way when your energy is needed, you have it.
