The man said, "Lord, I know if you are willing, I can be healed." And Jesus replied, "I am willing; be healed." And the man was! Jesus instructed the man to go to the temple and perform the requirements for cleansing, but not to tell anyone what happened.  Regardless, news of Jesus spread quickly. People flooded to Him to hear Him teach and to be healed. But Jesus often sought solitude so He could spend time in prayer. He never let the demands of the people overtake His time alone with God. 2. Jesus' First Disciples (From Luke 5:1-11 ) Summer Fishing by szjeno09190 at Pixabay 1. Summary Jesus, surrounded by a huge crowd on the banks of Lake Gennesaret, sees fishermen cleaning their nets, preparing to return home. Jesus climbs into Simon's boat and asks Him to go out a little ways into the lake. From the boat, Jesus speaks to the crowd for awhile. Then, He tells Simon to move out into deeper water, lower his nets, and see what he catches. Simon responds incredulously, "Okay, I mean, we've already fished all night and have caught nothing. But, since You're asking, I will."  When they pull the nets in, they are positively bustling with fish. The nets even begin breaking! They shouted for help to a nearby boat. When they found Him, they asked Him to stay. But Jesus said that He was sent to tell people in other places the good news too. So Jesus visited synagogues throughout Judea to do exactly that. 2. N/W/L Statements I NOTICED that: Jesus did not want the demons to identify Him, but He knew it was His duty to tell others about what God was doing.  *Jesus' mission is our mission, too! Summary Jesus went from the synagogue in Capernaum to Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law was sick, and they asked Jesus to help her. He ordered the fever to leave, and it did! Immediately, she rose and began preparing food for them. Then, everyone started bringing anyone they knew who needed healing, and Jesus healed them! Jesus Casts Out Demons (From Luke 4:31-37 ) Door to the Lake by stefanie_koelbli via Pixabay 1. Summary Jesus next went to Capernaum and preached in the synagogue there. As usual, people were moved by His teaching. Unusually, a demon-possessed man screeched at Him, imploring Jesus to leave them alone, asking if He came to destroy them, and identifying Him as the Holy One sent by God. Jesus rebuked the demon, commanding it to be silent and leave the man. Stunned by what they witnessed, the crowd murmured about what it meant that Jesus had the authority to tell demons to leave and they obeyed. Rumors of Jesus spread like wildfire. 2. Summary After being tempted of Satan, Jesus went throughout Galilee preaching in their synagogues. When He came to His hometown of Nazareth, He read prophecy about Himself from Isaiah - about preaching the good news of God's kingdom, about healing the brokenhearted, about showing captives how to find freedom, about restoring sight to the blind, about liberating the oppressed, and about spreading the news of the year of the Lord's favor. Jesus is Tempted (From Luke 4:1-13 ) Desert Image by Pexels at Pixabay 1. Summary Jesus, led by the Spirit, went to the wilderness where He was tempted of Satan for forty days. During this time, He ate nothing. So, being very hungry and weak, Satan tempted Jesus with food (turn this stone to bread), power (jump from this high place and demand the angels to come down and rescue you), and with authority (worship me and I'll give you all the kingdoms of the world). To each temptation, Jesus refused by quoting scripture. Having no more tricks up His sleeve, Satan left until he could devise another strategy. 2.
