Leaders, It's time we make writing fun again, and I'm calling on you to help me do it!  It breaks my heart that starting in Kindergarten I hear my nephew being prepped on writing the five sentence paragraph with the transitional words first, next, last, in conclusion hammered into him.  It's repetitive, redundant, repulsive.  We're making our kids dread writing.  And writing should be fun!   Last night, the Mr and I went to the library  Most of the time I just put books on hold, drop books off, pick up my holds and leave.  But last night, I went hunting.  I was hunting a book of writing exercises to help me build that muscle.  And not only did I find that book, but I also found a book of like-minded leaders who organized essays meant to breathe fun into writing again. Fellow Leaders, Columbus Day is a week away!    I will delve into that topic in detail a little further on, but first, I want to go over your weekend with you. "I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is." Imagine these words being spoken to you.  They're ugly, hurtful words.  If I heard these words spoken about me, I'd likely shut down immediately and walk away.  Then, I'd play them over and over in my head as I toss and turn in bed that night.  How about you?  What would your response be? Now, what if I told you those words were spoken by someone who knew you well - like a brother, a sister, a best friend, a spouse.  Picture someone close to you.  Someone who knows you well.  Imagine this person is in the room with you.  Now hear their voice as they tell you: "I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is." How do you feel now?  If it was someone close to me,  I would react differently.  My emotions would likely turn to anger this time and I would probably retaliate with a hurtful comment.  Or some bitter exclamation to show how hurt I am and possibly try to hurt them in

(Updated 3.3.2023) Greetings Leaders, The weather where we live today is undeniably fall weather.   Sweater weather.   Curl up with a blanket and a steaming cup of coffee weather.   And I love it!   The slight drizzle, the chilly air, and the need for warmer attire all provide a sense of comfort for me.   And, as I walked our nephew to school this morning, we noticed new weather-related accessories making an appearance.   That’s right, the ever so handy and sometimes necessary umbrella.   What a perfect time to learn about dressing for the weather with your littles.   And  g uess what? Greetings Leaders, How is National Love People Day treating you?  I must admit, it is not always easy to show people love, and typically the hardest ones to show love are the ones who need it most.  So, kudos to you for going the extra mile and taking the effort to show someone you care.  Currently, when I'm angry at someone, or it's really hard for me to show love, I visualize peering into their eyes and seeing God.  He's always there, if you look hard enough, and if you remember to look.  That's the hard part for me, anyway. Welcome Leaders, Today is National Brave Day!   Did you and your learners do something brave today?   Did you talk about people who exhibit bravery?   What it means to be brave?   We hope you did.   We hope you took the plunge and free fell right off that scary diving board – hypothetically speaking of course.   Or, maybe literally. If you did not get a chance to be brave today, maybe tomorrow is your day.   It’s National Good Neighbor Day.   In the current digital era, we typically do not connect with our neighbors as previous generations did.   Maybe tomorrow you will be inspired to change that in your neighborhood.   Ride the waves of bravery from today and invite your neighbor over to dinner.   Say, “Hello,” when you see them outside.   Or even pick a piece of trash up out of their lawn.   Whatever it is that inspires you, maybe still requires a little bit of bravery, and honors the intent of National Good Neighbor Day.
